Katie Smith

Katie Smith works across the fields of photography and graphic design, making connections between the two in establishing a diverse and experimental practice. Her work often concerns the digital landscape, dissecting the role that social media plays in an image driven society, bringing into sharp relief the mechanisms of image editing within modern day communication, which go largely unnoticed.  In this work Smith seeks to create a conversation with the viewer around these themes of perception and transmission, finding it important to find alternative ways to show audience members information that they see everyday,

Across these areas of design and photography, a passion for colour and creative solutions runs through each of Smith’s projects, whether this be for self-initiated projects or for clients that she has worked with. Having undertaken an additional graphic design qualification alongside her photography degree, Smith has developed her skills and knowledge as a designer and artist in tandem, each practice influencing the other, communicating her concepts to an audience in a bold and creative manner.
