I have chosen to evaluate and analise two English textbooks used for high school students in public schools in Kyrgyzstan. During my studies, I understood how important it is to choose appropriate materials for students. The reason for choosing a textbook evaluation field lies in the fact that as an EFL teacher I have worked and will continue working with various materials for EFL/ESL classrooms so I decided to explore the field of materials evaluation more in-depth.
Although I am from Kyrgyzstan, for the past 15 years I have been living in Turkey. I have worked with many different textbooks in Turkey but I was always curious about materials used for EFL classrooms in Kyrgyzstan. When I saw the textbooks used for high schools in public schools in Kyrgyzstan I had a very strong desire to change many things inside the books. I have chosen to analise reading and writing tasks and suggested possible improvements in the hope that one day my work may have a valuable contribution to the field of materials development in Kyrgyzstan.
"The specific objectives of the study, therefore, are the following: a) to analyse whether reading tasks encourage and teach the students to use reading strategies; b) to analyse whether writing tasks help the students to develop various writing skills such as paraphrasing, summarizing, rewriting and lead them to the established expectations; c) to propose the integration of reading and writing tasks to make the teaching-learning process more communicative and to make it correspond with the educational standard established by the Ministry of Education of Kyrgyzstan."
