A Regency Tea Party Collection by Alexandra Kennedy
During my period of study and development at Coventry University I have found a passion for Millinery. In my final year of study I was given the opportunity to develop a Millinery collection. I have always been interested in history and in particular the Georgian period -a time of fast paced global trade expansion that gave rise to a period of optimism, excess and design statements. I felt that this was reflected in the 21st Century.
My current view is that everything is not always as it seems – we are living in a time of fake news and fake lives. I see millinery as a distraction from this fake reality and fun way to distort the truth.
It was this that led me to research Georgian Fashion ideals and explore how I could integrate these into a collection of hats that not only reflected my own 21st century views but which also had relevance to my specific customer profile, an eccentric individual who lives a vintage life bestowed with social etiquette. She embraces both the extraordinary and contemporary and is not afraid of design statements.
