'Envelop' is a collection inspired by nature.
As a creative I have had the opportunity to be involved in many different areas within the industry and this has inspired me to create a six outfit womenswear collection inspired by growth and decay in nature.
I have always had an interest in nature and find the way in which organic matter naturally evolves fascinating.
As part of my primary research I documented the layers and depth created from the natural formation of the rock and caves at Pooles Cavern in the Peak District. After seeing the exhibition ‘Food:Bigger than the plate’ exhibition at the V&A I was inspired by the 'Urban Mushrooms', an installation of used coffee grounds growing oyster mushrooms which were then harvested and reused in cooking. I documented the exhibition through photography which helped inspire my development of oversized, cocoon like silhouettes which reflect the forms of the mushrooms.
Throughout the development of my collection I experimented with disrupting the traditional construction of garments to create new original silhouettes.
'Envelop' is a collection featuring softer, bigger silhouettes with a 'protective aesthetic' mirroring layers of nature observed through my primary research.
