Mia-Louise Lambert
BA (Hons) Fashion
I am Mia, I am a fashion designer with a focus on unisex clothing, not wishing to set boundaries on who can wear my clothing. The collection I have created for my brand ‘Moirai’ is inspired by microbiology. I am fascinated by the life and death cycle of microscopic organisms and the extreme impact that the incredibly good and terribly bad microbes can inflict upon this world. My main design inspiration is taken from petri dishes, from the shapes and colours that are created from growing life. For the collection I have grown my own cultures in petri dishes to develop fabric prints and used the shapes of the microbes to inspire garment details. I have also grown cultures in resin which I have developed into aglets. Another inspiration for my collection is the PPE worn by the microbiology industry, hazmat suits, gas masks and other PPE. I also chose to use heavy duty plastics and cotton drill to reflect the petri dishes and PPE used within the industry.
My overall aim of the collection is to reveal both the beauty within the microbes themselves and the protective quality of the garments required to protect against them.
