Jingya LIU

This is a multifunctional building inspired by the crystallization process. It includes commercial complexes, commuting, leisure, exhibitions and workshops. As a site on the edge of the jewellery Quarter, this project also assumes the function of the jewellery corner tourist information centre.

Birmingham is a city with a diverse population. Jewellery culture and industrial elements that can be traced back to the Industrial Revolution are the visual focus of this project. In nature, the formation process of crystals such as gemstones can grow through the continuous aggregation of basic units such as atoms and crystal nuclei. In society, everyone is an independent individual, just like these basic units. The encounter and coexistence of human beings, the generation and superposition of various human behaviours have constructed the world.

By activating the potential areas of the city, connecting citizens, tourists or visitors, let everyone find their own and unique ways of existence, living and fun——this can be a beautiful "hidden" gem made by all.
