I am a full time student of the Universidad de Sevilla in Spain, spending my 4th academic year studding at Coventry University thanks to the Erasmus program.
The project is based on the idea of bringing differently skilled makers into a single building; by partnering with different clients like the School of Jewellery and the Jewellery Quarter the concentration of different levels of apprenticeships can be achieved. But also collaborating with other enterprises such as the JQ Set who provide courses for jewellery making to a wide variety of people and giving them the opportunity to use the building’s facilities.
The building’s materiality plays with the traditional pallet of the jewellery quarter with the terracotta panels that elude to the brick and the partly exposed outer structure of the skin that wraps the building, which is a take on the commonly used steel structures of some of the more industrial buildings. However, reversing the concept and having the metal structure on the outside.
